Wonderfully soft, richly colored, and with the strength to last for years!
BFL Socks: 80% Blue Face Leicester Wool, 20% Nylon; 325m/355.42yds; 115g/4.06oz. Hand washable.
UPDATE 1/5/09: Fleece Artist just learned from the mill that BFL Sock yarn is not superwashed as they had originally been told. For me, this is actually good news because I prefer wool in its natural state to superwashed wool and don’t mind hand washing or using the Hand Wash cycle on my washing machine. However, if you have purchased BFL Socks from us before Jan. 5, 2009 and require your sock yarn to be machine washable, we will arrange with Fleece Artist to send you replacement sock yarn. Just write us at info@colorsongyarn.com - we’ll take your information and get your replacement yarn under way. We will also be contacting each of you who have purchased BFL Socks as well, but you are welcome to contact us first if you wish.
Suggested Needle Size and Gauge: 2.5mm/US 1; 27st/4"

Fleece Artist's BFL Socks have just raised the bar for conventional sock yarn. This yarn truly has it all: it uses only premium Blue Face Leicester Wool (you know how I feel about that - there just isn't a better choice for softness and strength) that gives up a hand that is creamy soft with the warmth and coziness that only wool can bring. It is not superwashed, so it retains its woolly wonderfulness. Please do hand wash or use the hand wash/delicate cycle on your machine.
However, the biggest plus with this sock yarn is that its beautiful BFL wool is spun with 20% nylon. This means that your socks will keep your feet beautiful and warm and last for years. Those of you who have followed my opinions about fiber and the benefits especially of natural fibers may be surprised to learn that I feel this way about including nylon in sock yarn. But I do. Let me tell you why.
When I first became an avid sock knitter, about 4 years ago, I decided to conduct my own semi-scientific experiment. I knit 7 different pairs of socks in 7 different yarns, 2 of them containing nylon. I then wore them each for 1 day in every week (the heat of summer excepting) and discovered that all 5 of the non-nylon socks developed major holes after about 1 year, independent of how the yarn was spun or how I turned the heel or whether or not it was superwashed. I am still wearing the nylon-bearing socks, neither of which are showing any signs of wearing through even though they've endured heavy wear for over 4 years.
BFL Socks will do the same for you - conserving our resources, preserving our knitting, and keeping our feet warm all at the same time.
